Edge of Appalachia Nature Preserve

Just 75 miles east of Cincinnati lies the 16,000-acre Edge of Appalachia Preserve, considered one of the most biologically diverse collections of natural systems in the Midwest.  The preserve boasts more than 100 rare plant and animal species within 11 unique preserves, including four that have been recognized as National Natural Landmarks - a testimony to their national significance and ecological importance.  Hiking trails include the 1.5-mile Lynx Prairie Trail rated easy, the 2.5-mile Wilderness Trail rated moderately difficult, and the 3-mile Buzzardroost Rock Trail rated moderately difficult.  Activities include hiking, wildlife watching, river access, picnic area, and volunteer opportunities (contact sross@tnc.org).  The trails are open year-round, dawn to dusk.
