Privy to History: Civil War Prison Life Unearthed

Northwest Ohio is home to the only Union Army Civil War prison designed to house captured Confederate officers. Johnson's Island Civil War Prison continues to reveal tantalizing details about the war and the men who fought and died. This exhibit focuses on information learned through archaeological evidence discovered since 1965. Numerous artifacts recovered from the site are on display. Funding for this exhibit is provided by the Sidney Frohman Foundation & Friends and Descendants of Johnson’s Island Civil War Prison.
