VOCI Great Songs of Faith
VOCI (Voices of Canton, Inc.) will present Love So Amazing, So Divine: Great Songs of Faith on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 3:00pm at Canton's Church of the Savior and on
Sunday, October 13, 2013 at 3:00pm at Cleveland's Mary Queen of Peace.
The evening features the vocal talents of the VOCI chorus, Chad Pittman on piano and organ, as well as the well-known Dr. W. Robert Morrison on carillon and organ.
For centuries, the Church has spoken through song, bringing inspiration and beauty to millions. In celebration of the St. John's Bible exhibit at the Canton Museum of Art, VOCI goes to the source - from Gregorian chant to contemporary anthems, Stark County's premiere choral ensemble explores the sources of church music over the centuries. Don't miss a concert of spectacular music which is sure to speak to the soul and spirit.
VOCI is honored to bring Dr. W. Robert Morrison, long-time Director of Music, back to the Aeolian-Skinner organ console at historic Church of the Saviour United Methodist Church, where he will perform both organ and carillon music. The choir will also be accompanied by Church of the Saviour's present musician, Chad Pittman. The choir travels, with Mr. Pittman, to Cleveland to present the concert as part of the concert series at Mary Queen of Peace parish.
The many sources of church music have provided the largest of all contributions to the world's choral literature. Rooted in Gregorian chant and growing through the Renaissance development of the motet, choral singing as we know developed in unique ways around the globe. VOCI presents a musical display, exploring Russian liturgy, British anthem, Scandinavian Lutheran heritage, Early American hymnody, and many other sources of the world's greatest spiritual song.
The concert will be performed on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 3:00pm at the Church of the Savior, 120 Cleveland Ave. SW, Canton, OH 44702,...more
