Char Norman: Forest Remnants
Jan. 8 - Feb. 22, 2013
Dublin Arts Council gallery, 7125 Riverside Dr., Dublin, Ohio
Opening reception Tuesday, Jan. 8, 6 to 8 p.m. (free)
Forest Remnants is a body of work stemming from artist Char Norman's deep-seated admiration and connection to natural settings and objects. The natural object sculptures were created as homage to the destruction of familiar trees.
Norman hopes to engage the viewer and foster respect and appreciation for the environment as she uses natural relics as icons, votives or objects of reverence. Her sculptures are often returned to the location from which the natural object was taken. In this way, the artist feels a sense of giving back and letting the elements take their natural course in the cycle of life.
Norman is an accomplished fiber artist specializing in papermaking and fiber sculpture. She received a Master of Fine Art from Claremont Graduate University and a Bachelor of Art from Scripps College, both in Claremont, Calif. She has lectured and exhibited extensively, both nationally and internationally, and holds the position of Dean of Faculty at Columbus College of Art & Design.
Forest Remnants is on view at Dublin Arts Council, 7125 Riverside Dr., in Dublin, from Jan. 8 through Feb. 22, 2013, The exhibition opens with a reception with the artist on Tuesday, Jan. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition and opening reception are free of charge.
