The Hayes Presidential Center’s summertime family event GroveFest is all new for 2013. This year’s daytime activities focus on nature and the outdoors to better highlight the grounds of Spiegel Grove, which is a state park. GroveFest, which is sponsored by The Fremont Company, takes place Saturday, July 27. Daytime activities occur from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. throughout Spiegel Grove. Celebrity auctioneer Jerry Anderson of Toledo’s WTOL-TV headlines the Bid at the Grove Auction scheduled for 6-10 p.m. in a reception tent located in the Lucy Hayes Rose Garden.
Admission to daytime events is free of charge, although some participating organizations may charge a minimal fee to cover the cost of supplies. The Bid at the Grove auction is a major fundraiser for the Hayes Presidential Center. Tickets are $100 per person, with discounts available for those reserving entire tables (table of eight/$90 per person or tables of 10/$85 per person).
Among the interactive activities that can be enjoyed by people of all ages are: bird banding, wagon rides, “Bucket Bass” fishing game, make-it-take-it events (using flowers, greenery, etc.), fly-tying, wildlife art, gardening, art for kids, and flower arranging. There also will be a natural history display, Humane Society program, and an inter-active EnviroScape display.
