2015 Hayes Civil War Reenactment

Mark the October 4, 1822, birthday of Ohio Civil War hero and 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes by experiencing life during the Civil War. Hundreds of costumed Civil War reenactors camp on the grounds of Hayes' 25-acre estate for this two-day living-history event. Major sponsorship for this event is provided by Fremont Memorial Hosptial.

Soldiers conduct military drills, chat with visitors and re-create the Battle of Opequon Creek, a Civil War battle in which Rutherford B. Hayes played a major role. Three reenactments are staged in the field behind the Hayes Museum. The highlight of the two-day event is a formal, military graveside service featuring active-duty military personnel sent by President Barack Obama.
