Preservation Parks of Delaware County

The Preservation Park District of Delaware County is the natural areas park district of the county. Nine parks encompass nearly 1,200 acres of preserved land, and provide passive recreation areas for such activities as hiking, picnicking and birding. Preservation Parks also maintains a section of the Ohio to Erie Multi-Use(bike) trail.

The newest park opened in December, 2013, in the Lewis Center Area. This park includes deep ravines and 30 to 40- foot shale cliffs. Throughout the park system, staff and volunteers are reestablishing prairie and wetland habitat, conducting reforestation projects, and continuing to acquire natural areas -- all in an effort to improve the natural environment in Delaware County.

Park naturalists lead programs for adults and children, including hikes where visitors learn about nature's wonders -- everything from owls to wildflowers to vernal pools. Programs for children get them close to nature with fun, hands-on activities.

Nature centers at Hogback Ridge Preserve and Deer Haven Preserve help educate the public on wildlife and habitats within the Park District.

Our special events draw people from all over. The "Osprey Homecoming" in April,  and the "Perseid Meteor Shower Campout" in August, are just a couple of the events that showcase what the parks and Delaware County have to offer.

Preservation Parks gives central Ohioans an opportunity to enjoy the splendor and peace of our natural lands.
