Delphos Postal Museum

Step into the new home of the Delphos Postal Museum and experience, through sight and sound, the development of transportation from the days of horse-drawn wagons to sorting mail on trains and buses. Learn about the evolution of letters, envelopes, manuscript postmarks, and special cancellations of rare stamps. Explore the role of the U. S. Postal Service in World War II. Most items are property of the US Postal Service or are on loan from the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D. C.

The Museum recently opened a new WW II exhibit.  The main focus of the exhibit is to show how the human spirit can be sustained by the power of personal letters and the written word.  One exhibit tells the story of how 2 cousins, 1 in Germany and 1 in America, bolstered each other's spirits by writing letters during the war years.  Another exhibit was created by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D. C. for the National Postal Museum.  It begins with the heartbreaking story of the SS St. Louis, a ship bound from Germany to Havana, Cuba, and 930 refugees.  It follows the life of one of the survivors over a 7-year period.
