Blue Rock Station

Tour a green homestead (home to Ohio's first Earthship-made of tires, cans, bottles, adobe and re-claimed barn wood).   Annie and Jay Warmke (along with their granddaughter and numerous critters) live and work in this year-round demonstration of sustainable living on a farm.

Gain a "real world" perspective of living lightly on the land. Along with the Earthship (which uses the earth and sun for heat, captures and recycles its water supply, uses compost toilets, solar power and other zero impact techniques), Blue Rock Station features straw bale buildings, a plastic bottle greenhouse, raised bed gardens, dairy goats, pastured chickens, llamas, and more.

Each month there is a theme -
March is natural gardening 101 - creating raised beds
April kidding season
May strawbale construction
June natural care & feeding of dogs & cats
July Green living exploration weekend
Aug. Old-fashioned canning & cooking
Sept. Llama trekking
Oct. Building Plastic Bottle Greenhouses
Nov. Llama trekking
Dec. 12 months of green living...learning the basics
Or attend workshops about green living, building a solar oven and sustainable building techniques used in constructing strawbale structures and Earthships. Trek the scenic hills of Blue Rock with the llamas, feed the rare breed chickens, visit with the dairy goats, or just have a proper cup of British tea and a warm cookie from the solar oven.  Special birthdays, office retreats and anniversaries are common happenings and can be planned to suite your needs.

As this is a working farm/homestead, reservations are required.  Create your own theme for your visit or schedule an exclusive "behind the scenes" visit for five or more visitors.  Fees begin at $35for workshops and $5 each for group tours (minimum fee is $25).  Reservations required.

The Earthship at Blue Rock Station

Tour the 2,000 sq. ft. home made of tires, cans, bottles and other recycled materials. This home captures and recycles its water, generates its own heat - and is a really neat place to live.
