Dayton/Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau

Welcome to Dayton, the Birthplace of Aviation... plus a whole lot more! Dayton truly has something for everyone! From world-class museums and outstanding arts and cultural offerings, to a range of sports and recreational activities and numerous shopping and dining alternatives, Dayton combines big-city amenities with Midwestern charm and hospitality. Everyone knows that Dayton is key to Ohio being coined the "Birthplace of Aviation." After all, Wilbur and Orville Wright dreamed up their flights of fancy in their small Dayton bicycle shop before attempting their first test flights at Dayton's Huffman Prairie. The fathers of powered flight credit Dayton as the place where they "really learned to fly." Over the years, Dayton has remained an innovative city. Paul Laurance Dunbar, a contemporary of the Wright Brothers, became the first recognized African-American writer and poet laureate, his first book, Oak & Ivy, was published in 1892. Dunbar's former home is a state memorial and one of four separate sites in the popular Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park. Welcome to Dayton!
