Ohio Tourism Division Unveils New 2006 Official State Travel Planner

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Department of Development's Division of Travel and Tourism today unveiled the 2006 Ohio Travel Planner, the Division's primary travel fulfillment piece. The 172-page annual planner is 28 percent larger than its biannual predecessor, the Discover Ohio Travel Planner, and presents information in a more traveler-friendly style than the magazine story format of past planners.

The full-color Ohio Travel planner contains a much shorter editorial section focused on Ohio travel experiences divided into four areas: arts & culture, history & heritage, sports & recreation and family fun. A majority of the publication consists of seven geographic regional sections containing information for more than 2,000 attractions, recreation facilities, shopping venues, restaurants, lodging facilities and more. Each regional section is color-coded for ease of use.

"Changes to the travel planner were based on research and the need to provide information that will offer visitors the most complete and accurate display of Ohio experiences available," said State Tourism Director, Claudia Vecchio. "We felt the Ohio publication was missing some important ingredients, especially information on lodging facilities and restaurants, and focus groups confirmed this. By listening to insights about how travelers use printed travel materials, the information they feel is most important and how they want information arranged, we created an outline for the new annual Ohio Travel Planner."

At-a-glance features of the Ohio Travel Planner include:

  • Travel Ohio - Transportation information and important phone numbers and Web sites
  • Driving Distances Around Ohio
  • Ohio Fast Facts - Ohio symbols, firsts and facts
  • Ohio travel experiences in arts & culture, history & heritage, sports & recreation and family fun
  • Seven Regional Sections, each featuring:
    • Detailed geographic map of the region
    • Listings organized by city: attractions, recreation, shopping, dining, lodging and visitor services
    • Lodging directory including bed & breakfasts, inns, cabins, campgrounds, hotels, motels and resorts
  • Event Highlights
  • Money-Saving Coupons

The regional listings were created with data from the Ohio Division of Travel and Tourism's DiscoverOhio.com/Buckeye Database. All Ohio travel entities are invited to submit listings, free of charge, to the Buckeye Database to be included in future issues of the travel planner. Information also was supplied by the Ohio Bed & Breakfast Association, the Ohio Campground Owners Association, the Ohio Hotel & Lodging Association and the Ohio Restaurant Association.

The 2006 Ohio Travel Planner is available free of charge from www.DiscoverOhio.com or 1-800-BUCKEYE. This year the planner also is being distributed by Ohio State Parks, the Ohio Turnpike Commission, Ohio Visitor Bureaus and Ohio Department of Transportation Travel Information Centers.
