CLEVELAND, Ohio (Aug. 12, 2009) - Become the only person on your block to own artwork created by the giraffes, rhinos and gorillas of Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

The 4th annual Animals Creating Art Silent Auction runs from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 20 at the Zoo’s RainForest. Admission to the art auction is just $5 per person if you RSVP by Thursday, August 13. After that, it’s $10 per person. Admission to the art show includes complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, with all proceeds benefiting not-for-profit conservation programs.

To save your spot, call Animal Keeper Heather Strawn at (216) 661-6500 ext. 4452. The art auction is presented by the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers.

Dozens of masterpieces will be up for grabs, including prints and paintings by the Zoo’s orangutans, turtles, red pandas, elephants and big cats. Each piece comes with the animal’s photo and is autographed by its keeper and matted for framing.

New this year, animal-inspired art by the students at Polaris Career Center in Middleburg Heights will be offered to bidders.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is $10 per person, $7 for kids ages 2 to 11 and free for children under 2 and Zoo members. Parking is free. Located at 3900 Wildlife Way, the Zoo is easily accessible from Interstates 71, 77, 90 and 480.
