COLUMBUS, Ohio (June 29, 2009) – The Ohio Statehouse today kicked off its ticket sales for the 2009 Cornerstone to Cupola Tour. The special behind-the-scenes tours are scheduled for Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19.

There are three tour times each day: 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Space is limited; tours are restricted to 20 individuals per tour start time. All tours depart from the Map Room easily accessible from the Third Street entrance of the Capitol Square complex, located in downtown Columbus at the corners of High and Broad streets.

The Cornerstone to Cupola Tour of the Ohio Statehouse will highlight parts of the Capitol building which are rarely seen by the public. Visitors will see the “lost” cornerstone and prisoner graffiti in the Crypt. One of the highlights of the tour will include a climb up more than 70 stairs through the narrow spiral staircase to the top of the Cupola.

Ordinarily off-limits to the public, highlighted hidden locations will be featured in this unique, special and rarely available tour. Some locations are not entirely handicapped accessible and involve stair climbing. Participants are asked to dress for attic and basement exploration. Each participant will be required to sign a waiver. Those under age 18 will require the signature of their guardian.

Tickets are only available for purchase online at www.statehouseshop.com and click on “Statehouse Exclusive” or at the Ohio Statehouse Museum shop located on the ground level of the Capitol building. The Museum Shop is open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and weekends from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 per adult and $4 per child under the age of 16. A $2 handling and shipping charge will be assessed to each online order.
