Celebrate the Holidays at the Ohio Statehouse Throughout the Month of December

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Nov. 20, 2008) – The public is encouraged to brighten their holidays with a visit to the Ohio Statehouse throughout December for special holiday tours, programming and concerts.
Governor and First Lady Strickland will officially kick off the holiday season on Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m. with the 93rd Annual Ohio Statehouse Holiday Tree Lighting. The ceremony will be followed by a free holiday festival in the Rotunda and Atrium.
Visitors will be invited to "step back in time" during a free guided tour of the 1861 Statehouse and see holiday decorations as they were in Victorian times. Visiting relatives and friends will enjoy a trip to the People’s House during their holiday visit in Columbus. Tours will depart from the Third Street Information Desk each hour on the hour from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on weekdays, and from noon to 3 p.m. on weekends. The Statehouse will be closed on Christmas Day.
Free lunch-time concerts from Ohio musical groups will take place from Dec. 1-19. Musical performances are scheduled each week day at noon in the Crypt of the Ohio Statehouse. Visitors will be treated to a lunch hour concert as Ohio choirs and musical groups celebrate and sing the songs of the season. The concerts are open to the public.
