Ohio is often referred to as the "Mother of Presidents." Seven U.S. presidents were born in Ohio. They are: Ulysses Simpson Grant, 1869-1877 (Point Pleasant); Rutherford B. Hayes, 1877-1881 (Delaware); James Garfield, 1881 (near Orange); Benjamin Harrison, 1889-1893 (North Bend); William McKinley, 1897-1901 (Niles); William Howard Taft, 1909-1913 (Cincinnati); and Warren Harding, 1921-1923 (Corsica, now Blooming Grove). William Henry Harrison, 1841, born in Virginia but settled in Ohio, is also claimed as one of Ohio's own.
