Annual Sternwheel Rockin’ Rib Fest set for September 4

MARIETTA, Ohio (Aug. 19, 2008) – The 8th annual Sternwheel Rockin’ Rib Fest is set to kick off in downtown Marietta Thursday, Sept. 4 from 6 – 10:00 p.m. with a concert and some of the tastiest, mouth-watering ribs around!
The Rib Fest takes place at the Lafayette Hotel Parking Lot and is organized by the Marietta, Washington County Convention & Visitors Bureau. Rib Fest activities begin at 6:00 p.m. with ribs being served until 9:00 p.m. (or until they are gone). Local restaurants will vie for the Rib Fest People’s Choice Award and top bragging rights in the Mid-Ohio Valley for the best ribs! Admission is $15 ages 12 and up, $10 under 12 and kids 5 and under are free. The event features an outdoor concert with the band Hip Pocket playing favorite tunes from the '60s, '70s and '80s.
This year’s participating area restaurants include Blacksmith Barbecue, Wrangler Tavern & Grill, River City Tavern & Grill, Cowboy Concessions, Bar-B-Cutie, da Vinci’s, Brighter Day, Polo Club, Memories at the Holiday Inn and the Gun Room at the Lafayette Hotel.
"Each year, the Rib Fest grows in the number of participating restaurants and visitors," Marietta CVB Director Kelly Blazosky said. "Those who attend the Rib Fest are giving back to their own community. As a 501C6 not-for-profit organization, the CVB will use all the proceeds from the event toward the promotion of the Marietta area as a travel destination in the upcoming year. We want others to discover first hand why we love this region."
In addition to great food, the Rib Fest is also the official Sternwheel Captain's party too. Mix and mingle with the Captains of the sternwheelers and enjoy the finest ribs and fixings in the area. Admission fee includes ribs, baked beans, coleslaw and a dinner roll. Budweiser, water and soft drinks are sold separately. No coolers are permitted and tables and chairs are provided.
