Exhibition of Pulitzer Prize Photos Extended by Popular Demand
'Capture the Moment' runs through Sept. 14 at the Ohio Historical Center in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (June 30, 2008) - "Capture the Moment: The Pulitzer Prize Photographs," the largest display of Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs ever shown, has been held over by demand at The Ohio Historical Center in Columbus through Sept. 14. With the recent installation of this year's award-winning images, visitors now can see all 152 Pulitzer Prize photographs from 1942 through 2008.
"We're excited to extend this popular show throughout the summer," said William K. Laidlaw Jr., executive director and CEO at the Ohio Historical Society. "The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Visitors have told us that they need to come more than once to see and absorb the impact of all the photos, so we're pleased to make that happen."
The Pulitzer Prize photos record the defining moments of our time by photojournalists doing their daily job - working on assignment close to home or around the globe. And when the opportunity presented itself, they had the skill and the daring to seize the opportunity and capture the moment.
Visitors to this exhibition will see large dramatic images - some iconic like the flag raising on Iwo Jima or the Oklahoma City bombing, others of mostly forgotten events - arranged chronologically throughout the main exhibit gallery. Each is accompanied by a first-hand account of the events leading up to the award-winning photograph.
Two accompanying displays by the Ohio Historical Society will also be extended along with "Capture the Moment" to Sept. 14: "It Happened in Ohio" where visitors will learn about the 1970 Kent State shootings through artifacts, photos and personal accounts; and "Moments Captured," a collection of news and feature photographs from the photographers at The Columbus Dispatch.
"Capture the Moment: The Pulitzer Prize Photographs" was developed by the Newseum, the interactive museum of news that recently opened a new facility in Washington, D.C., in association with Business of Entertainment, Inc., NYC, Cyma Rubin, curator. For more information about the Newseum, visit

"Capture the Moment" is sponsored locally by the Reinberger Foundation, the Estate of Michael D. Lehman and The Columbus Dispatch. Admission to the Ohio Historical Center is $8 for adults, $4 for students and free for OHS members and children 5 and under. Museum hours are: Thursdays, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sundays and holidays, noon-5 p.m.
