Ohio Film Office Names Music Video Challenge Winner
John Daugherty and The Receiver, both of Columbus, Ohio, receive winning nod from Hollywood judges

COLUMBUS, Ohio (April 1, 2009) – Filmmaker John Daugherty and the band The Receiver, both from Columbus, Ohio, took first place in the Ohio Film Office Music Video Challenge contest last night with their video titled "Visitor." Daugherty and company received their award during a live presentation at the House of Blues in Cleveland.
Receiving first runner-up was Greg Sabo with Happy Chichester for the music video, "A Man Needs an Airplane." Sabo is from Canal Winchester. Third place went to Columbus’ DJ Cosgrove with Josh Young for the music video, "Love Birds."
"We created the Ohio Film Office Music Video Challenge to showcase Ohio filmmakers and musicians in conjunction with the return of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony to Cleveland," Ohio Film Office Director Christina Grozik said. "It was exciting to provide Ohioans with an opportunity to challenge their filmmaking skills and have their work exposed to the public and some outstanding film and music talents who evaluated their efforts."
A total of 23 entries were successfully submitted for the Music Video Challenge that began Feb. 18 and challenged filmmakers and artists to submit a finished music video by March 11. All entries were posted to YouTube where the public registered more than 29,500 views of the videos and cast their votes narrowing the contest field to 10. Following is a listing of the Top 10 finalists (filmmaker listed first, band second):
• Katharine Steele with Pike for the music video "Jawbreaker' (Hamilton)
• Darell Day with Swiss Army Mouth for the music video "Song 5" (Columbus)
• Greg Sabo with Happy Chichester for the music video "A man needs an airplane" (Canal Winchester)
• John Daugherty with The Receiver for the music video "Visitor" (Columbus)
• DJ Cosgrove with Josh Young for the music video "Love Birds" (Columbus)
• Scott Handel with Matt Munhall for the music video "Green in the Morning" (New Albany)
• Dave Wilmhoff with Tupelo Honey for the music video "On My Own" (Cincinnati)
• John Varga with Hostle Omish for the music video "Generation Zero" (Hudson)
• Eric Vaughan with GmonE for the music video "Dance Floor" (Akron)
• Brad Lednik with The Host for the music video "Duel" (Cincinnati)
The winning entry was selected by an esteemed panel of celebrity judges including:

Daugherty and The Receiver both won a generous prize package that includes:

"This was a great way to blend an opportunity for recognition for Ohio filmmakers and musicians with the return of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction to Ohio," State Tourism Director Amir Eylon said. "As a result of the Induction Ceremony in Cleveland, we will be telling Ohio's music story for travelers all summer, and this was another way to not only tell that story, but get some of Ohio's up-and-coming talent involved to showcase their skills."
