45th Annual Fall Hiking Spree, Summit County Metro Parks, Akron, Now through Nov. 30
Grab your hiking boots for a rugged adventure on eight designated trails to experience Summit County’s brilliant fall foliage. First-year hikers will receive a hiking staff and commemorative shield after completing eight different trails. Veteran hikers will earn the annual hiking shield to add to their own outdoor adventure collection.
Pirate Letterboxing, The Wilds, Cumberland, Nov. 15
Letterboxing involves the use of a compass, pacing and following clues that lead to a mysterious treasure. The program is part of Winter on the Wilds, an exciting opportunity for visitors to discover unique winter wildlife at the Wilds. Brother Against Brother: The Civil War, Historic Fort Steuben, Steubenville, Nov. 3-14
Historic Fort Steuben presents an exhibit of Civil War memorabilia that recreates a crucial period of American history. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy panel discussions, lectures and educational programs and visit the exhibit of maps, photos, weapons, letters and military equipment from the Civil War in the Exhibit Hall.
Presidential Tours at the Statehouse, Columbus, Nov. 3-7
Talk about talent! Columbus resident Tim George has been busy using an Etch-A-Sketch to create all of America's presidents, including this year's two major presidential candidates. The display pays tribute to the men who served as commander-in-chief from the beginning of American history. The display also features drawings of the White House, U.S. Capitol Building, Mount Rushmore, Lady Liberty, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Independence Hall and the Ohio Statehouse. Schedule a Statehouse tour to enjoy this unusual art exhibit and learn about Ohio’s history.
1840 Christmas, Lore City, Nov. 27-30
Built in 1837, the Kennedy Stone House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has since been restored to serve as a museum located inside Salt Fork State Park. Enjoy 1840s holiday decorations, tours of this beautiful home and ginger snaps and mulled cider as you take a step back in time.
