Fort Ancient
Fort Ancient features 18,000 feet of earthen walls built 2,000 years ago on a hilltop terrace overlooking the Little Miami River by the Hopewell culture, who used the earthworks for ceremonies and social gatherings. The stone-covered earthworks at the site are astronomical-marking mounds-by observing the movements of the sun and moon people could gather at certain days of the year.
The site offers beautiful vistas along hiking trails and overlooks. Convenient picnic areas are available throughout the site.
The Museum at Fort Ancient features an interactive experience of 15,000 years of American Indian history in the Ohio Valley. The Museum also contains a classroom, a research area and a sales shop with many fine American Indian items.
