Tour Stops

  • Edison Birthplace Museum

The Edison Birthplace Museum was opened to the public by Thomas Edison's daughter Madeleine in 1947. Thomas Edison was born in this red brick cottage on the banks of the Milan Canal Basin on February 11, 1847. The home is run by the Edison Birthplace Association, Inc. and is the only Edison site that has Edison family on the Board.  Tours go through the seven rooms in the Birthplace home as well as the Welcome Center where tickets are purchased. The rooms are furnished with period family pieces, inventions, photographs and other objects through which guests are told of Edison, his family, and the impact of the great inventor and his ideas on the world. The Birthplace is open at different times throughout the year and by appointment (closed in January). The last tour always leaves the office one-half hour before closing.  Special rates for groups over 10 people are available.

  • Perry's Cave Family Fun Center/The Butterfly House at Put-in-Bay

Perry's Cave Family Fun Center is "the center of it all" at Put-in-Bay. Perry's Cave, an Ohio Registered Natural Landmark, is a limestone cave 52' below the surface of South Bass Island in Lake Erie. The guided tour takes about 20 minutes. In 2004, we opened The Butterfly House at Put-in-Bay, a 4000 sq. ft. aviary housing over 500 exotic butterflies from all over the world, along with a 5000 sq. shop with something "butterfly" for everyone.
Besides Perry's Cave and The Butterfly House, our Family Fun Center is home to Gemstone Mining, Geode Cutting, Antique Car Museum, Rock Wall and a Miniature Golf Course. New in 2006, was Fort aMAZEn', giant maze challenge. In 2011, we added Gotcha Laser Tag!
The Tour Train makes frequent stops at the Family Fun Center, and is a great way to see Historic South Bass Island.
Fun Center Combo Tickets are available allowing you to tour the cave & butterfly house, play mini-golf, climb the rock wall, run the maze and/or play laser tag all for one low price. Island Fun Packs are another money-saving option, combining many attractions into one discounted package, available at Miller Boat Line, The Jet Express or the Lake Erie Islands Regional Welcome Center. Also available at the Depot Downtown.  The Island Fun Pack includes your ferry ride to the island, your narrated tour aboard the Put-in-Bay Tour Train, admission to Perry's Cave, The Butterfly House at Put-in-Bay, Heineman Winery & Crystal Cave, and a round of miniature golf at The War of 18Holes.  In 2014, we added The Lake Erie Islands Nature & Wildlife Center to the Fun Pack!
